Tributes
  1. Absolutely heartbroken to hear of the passing of our beloved friend Frank, so many good times had singing and playing together. So devastating for Delores and family, still cannot believe it’s real.

Raise your glass one final time,
For one who lived so well,
Let stories flow like finest wine,
    And tales of triumph tell.
For Irish hearts don’t break, they say,
    They simply overflow,
With love that lasts beyond the day,
When loved ones have to go.
So drink deep to memories sweet,
    And laugh through misty eyes,
For somewhere down some golden street,
    Love never truly dies.

  31. To the man that had it all really, because the loving, devoted relationship he had with his family, his music family, and his friends made him the richest man in the world – and it wasn’t just luck that this occurred. It was because he spent every waking moment devoting himself to that. This is what came through very clearly in his work ethic too. Frank used to drop by the office every afternoon to pick up Dolores on his way through from his office, and wait patiently for her to finish off whatever she was doing for someone else, and quite simply, that is the true essence of who he was. He called a spade a spade, did not tolerate fools, made a mountain of music, and played a lot of soccer. His love of life was also evident in the latter stage of his career working with younger people, a job he cherished. There is so much more that could be said of Frank, but in the interest of brevity, I will simply say, give them hell up there Frank, and make some bloody good music, ready for us all when we meet again.

  57. Condolences to all of the O’Dowd family on the sudden passing of Frank. We were part of the Bairnsdale CAMHS team and worked with Frank as our manager. I have fond memories of being interviewed by Frank, many years ago now, and as I struggled with one of the interview questions Frank patiently tried to to guide me and eventually answered the question himself, looked at me and said ” I think that is what you were trying to say” to which I answered “yes” and the interview ended with a lot of hilarity. He will be missed. Rest in peace, Frank.

  64. Dear Delores and Family,

    Our Deepest Sincere Condolences.

Frank; So friendly, supportive, welcoming and talented.

Whenever we attended music and football events his lovely smiling face was so often the first things you saw and the welcome, noticed from afar.

Our shared junior Gippsland representative team trips, with many other families, are a special memory.

Musically wonderful in so many ways. Frank’s rendition of, ‘Fields of Gold’, is just one example of his special way to paint a picture with his music, timing, phrasing and song.

Dear Dolores and family, we want you to know how deeply our hearts aches for you. The loss of Frank is not just passing of a man but quiet dimming of a light that warms so many lives. He was a gentleman with great sense of humour, his shared wisdom during our challenging moments created a sense of hope. 68. Dear Dolores, Lisa, David, Frank Jr, Sarah and extended family,

My deepest condolences during such a sad time. Frank was a dear colleague. Working with Frank was marked by humour, kindness and a sense of true belonging. I knew the world was a better place with Frank in it. Frank was a man of compassion, integrity, and great humour, with his greatest superpower being connection. Frank had the ability to make anyone feel seen and heard by just being in his presence.

His love for his family and his pride in his children and grandchildren featured frequently in conversations. What a gift he was to all who knew and loved him.

I like to imagine Frank resting in a deck chair in a beautiful place surrounded by old and new friends and saying “How’s the serenity? So much serenity”

Until we meet again Frank xxx

    Death Is Nothing At All
    Henry Scott-Holland.

    Death is nothing at all.
    It does not count.
I have only slipped away into the next room.
    Nothing has happened.

Everything remains exactly as it was.
I am I, and you are you,
and the old life that we lived so fondly together is untouched, unchanged.
Whatever we were to each other, that we are still.

Call me by the old familiar name.
Speak of me in the easy way which you always used.
Put no difference into your tone.
Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow.

Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes that we enjoyed together.
Play, smile, think of me, pray for me.
Let my name be ever the household word that it always was.
Let it be spoken without an effort, without the ghost of a shadow upon it.

Life means all that it ever meant.
It is the same as it ever was.
There is absolute and unbroken continuity.
What is this death but a negligible accident?

Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight?
I am but waiting for you, for an interval,
    somewhere very near,
    just round the corner.

    All is well.
Nothing is hurt; nothing is lost.
One brief moment and all will be as it was before.
How we shall laugh at the trouble of parting when we meet again!

  76. Frank was such a special man, and inspiration to me.
I met Frank playing in Irish tune sessions in Gippsland, where he made me feel very welcome and encouraged from our first meeting.
I would look forward with extra excitement to a session or gig if I knew Frank would be there – because I loved witnessing his tasteful, original, understated yet masterful guitar playing, and experiencing his gentle but infectious enthusiasm, and his affirming and uplifting encouragemenr.
Seeing Frank was always a pleasure. Being in his warm, lively, generous presence, and being bouyed by his curiosity and zest for life, was a gift – one that I’m inspired to try and share with others.
Thank you Frank, I hope the craic is good wherever you are.
