wir haben uns erst im Frühling 2024 kennengelernt, als du deine Familie in Deutschland besucht hast. Ich habe dich als einen warmherzigen und lustigen Menschen kennen gelernt. Meiner Frau Ina, hast du deinen selbstgebrannten Whiskey angepriesen, stets mit einem Lachen im Gesicht. Familie verbindet, auch wenn man keinen Kontakt hat oder nur über Familienmitglieder voneinander hört. Sehr faszinierend finde ich, dass mein kleinster Sohn dir unfassbar ähnlich sieht, bereits als Baby.

Bereits in meiner Kindheit hörte ich oft von dir, wenn meine Mutter (Lisa) oder Tante Burga von dir sprachen. Das Haus in Moers Eick war dein und auch mein Elternhaus. Mit dem Haus und dem großen Garten verbinde ich viele Erinnerungen. Einige dieser Erinnerungen sind auf alten schwarz-weiß-Fotos festgehalten, die Mama mir 2019 vererbt hat. Sie zeigen Mama als Baby, Kind und Teenager. Sie zeigen aber auch euch 3 (Tante Burga, dich und Mama) als lebensfrohe und albernde Geschwister spielend im Garten, mit Schlitten im Schnee und zusammen mit Familie und Freunden.
Es ist schön für mich, diese Erinnerungen zu haben.
Obwohl du mit meiner Mutter keinen Kontakt mehr hattest, hat sie immer liebevoll von dir gesprochen. Jetzt seid ihr wieder miteinander vereint.
Danke, dass ich dich 2024 kennenlernen durfte. Danke, dass auch meine Frau Ina und unsere Kinder Suraya, Sami und Semin dich und dein liebes Wesen kennenlernen durften.

Unserer Familie in Deutschland sowie unserer unbekannten Familie in Australien möchten wir unser herzlichstes Beileid aussprechen und wünschen viel Kraft.

Dear Uncle Thomas,

We only met in the spring of 2024, when you visited your family in Germany. I came to know you as a warm-hearted and funny person. You proudly offered my wife Ina your homemade whiskey, always with a smile on your face. Family connects us, even when there has been no contact or when we only hear about one another through other family members. I find it especially fascinating that my youngest son looks incredibly similar to you—already as a baby.

Even in my childhood, I often heard about you when my mother (Lisa) or Aunt Burga spoke of you. The house in Moers-Eick was yours and also my parents’ home. I associate many memories with that house and its large garden. Some of these memories are preserved in old black-and-white photographs that my mother passed on to me in 2019. They show my mother as a baby, a child, and a teenager. They also show the three of you (Aunt Burga, you, and my mother) as joyful and playful siblings—playing in the garden, sledding in the snow, and spending time together with family and friends.
It means a lot to me to have these memories.

Although you no longer had contact with my mother, she always spoke of you with great affection. Now you are reunited again.

Thank you for allowing me to meet you in 2024. Thank you that my wife Ina and our children Suraya, Sami, and Semin were also able to get to know you and your kind nature.

To our family in Germany as well as to our unknown family in Australia, we would like to express our deepest condolences and wish you much strength.
