Saddened to learn that Damian has passed. He brought so much character to the Gippsland FM radio community in his many years presenting the Italian program, and later loved to chat about politics and current Latrobe Valley events in his cafe.

What a man. What a legacy. No one did more for the Italian community in Gippsland than my beloved cousin Damian. And personally since I was a child he was always there for me. Navigating relationships with family, telling me our family history and even honouring my father doing his eulogy and a speech at our wedding.
Damian. Thank you for everything. You will be greatly missed but remembered with love always.

Dearest Melina,
I am very, very sad at the passing of your beloved Damiano, you really were my Fairy Tale Couple.
I vividly remember Damian returning from Italy after he took his Mum to visit her family, he was excited to tell me he had seen the woman he was going to marry picking olives in a grove next door!!
Damian loved you immediately and his love for you filled this wonderful man’s heart totally.
He asked me to teach you to speak English and you would teach me to speak Italian.. we both know how hard that was and unsuccessful too.
You went to the supermarket and listened to people speaking, then opened your Jeans shop, again with your determination you were able to slowly master the English language.
We both had babies, Joe was your baby and Rachael was mine. Both were friends in their early lives now grown up and both are very successful people in their chosen careers.
You gave me a very beautiful brocade & embroidered Copriletto from your ‘Glory Chests’. It was absolutely stunning, I loved it.
You told Joe, I was your FIRST FRIEND when you arrived from Italy. I will cherish that always Melina.
I had lunch at your restaurant when in I was in Traralgon and Joe rang you to say I was asking after you and would love to visit you and Damian.
It was a beautiful reunion of old friends … Damian signed and gave me a cope of his book he had written and Melina you gave me a copy of one of your cookery books. I will cherish those forever too.
Damian, I have known you for such a long time, 57 years and we spent times when you were setting up your Pizza Restaurant in Morwell all those years ago. Plus many more memories.
We all enjoyed our times spent together…
We am unable to attend Damiano’s funeral tomorrow Melina, I WILL visit you when we are in Traralgon again.

Very sad to hear of the passing of one of natures true gentleman Damiano.
First met him at Traralgon Tech where he was one of the head lads, we played a bit of basketball together.
Later he taught our two kids at school where we had a few interesting conversations, a great teacher.
Always a community person he will always be remembered as the man who wrote the poem on the statue at the Immigration Park in Morwell.
Always ready for a chat whenever we met, he is and will remain a very respected person in the Traralgon and wider community.
