  10. Hi John – we both have fond memories of hectic probation and parole days in the early 60’s, and of our collaboration in the late 80’s when you contracted me to carry out social planning for the region. I use the present tense because you are still with me now, and looking at your photo I can physically feel your presence. You are an exceptional person, and we both relished our friendship. There was always a sense that we shared the same space. Sleep well matey, you re part of me, thank you for being you..

  15. John was a great leader and managing with strong ethical social values, which is how he lived. He had a sometimes wicked sense of humour and created a team of people that cared for each other and really cared for community members who they were there to support and engage.

I have many memorable moments of working for and with him and I learnt a lot from him and his commitment to real social change in our region and community. His family was always paramount.

My sincere sympathy to Maureen, Lizzie, Darrel and extended family.

We need more people in the world like John. He was a person who made a real difference – a strong advocate for the Valley and region – who was always respectful – while sticking to his values, to bring a brighter future for many disadvantaged in our community He will be greatly missed.

  16. What a beautiful service for John. So sorry to hear about his sudden loss; such a light he was in so many lives. I’ll always remember that glint in his eyes, his wry smile, his penchant to find the humour in any situation. And his ever present kindness. He had a lovely presence that will no doubt be remembered for years to come.

  17. John was a great man. One of a group of CSV/DHS staff who were totally committed to improving rights and lives of some of Victoria’s most marginal people. Those of us who worked with him were priveleged to to do so and learn from him. I still have a copy of his Factors Affecting The Success of Children Home Released from Allambie Reception Centre.

  21. Working with you was both an inspiration and a challenge I reflect on a cupboard full of unanswered correspondence battles with the bitter ladies of the local Catholic Church and rewriting rules for caravan park residents You were a good man
