She joined our committee in 2003 and was always willing to help with advice and any chore, being particularly good out front ‘meeting and greeting’ people attending the reunions. It is hard to imagine future reunions without Mavis; she has been a friend to many, and she will be sadly missed by us all. Julie

Thinking of Mavis’s family at this sad time. .

Mavis lived a full life, and she lived it generously — for her family, her many friends, and the wider community she gave herself to, including the church she belonged to for so many years.
She gave one hundred percent. She brought to every table a practical, clear-eyed sense of where things stood and how to get to a good outcome. In discussions, hers wasn’t always the voice people wanted to hear — but it was the voice they needed. And more often than not, it was what got us to the right result.
She was consistent. Always herself. And she had a real gift for hospitality — something she and Tom built together over many happy years, as individuals and as a couple who showed up, fully, for everything they were part of.
Mavis never gave praise lightly. But when she did, you knew exactly where it came from. It wasn’t the easy, passing kind of praise people hand out to be nice. Hers meant something, because it cost her something to give — thought, honesty, real attention.
We are sorry we can’t be there with you today to celebrate her on Wednesday. But I want to say this clearly: the world is harder to bear without people like Mavis in it. She was a loyal friend, a steady presence, someone you could count on without question.
The Irish say “Friendship reduces the distance between two souls.” I think that saying is true of Mavis. We give thanks for her friendship and the friendship she shared so readily with so many people in so many decades of her life as we ask the angles to speed her gently on her way…
I hope, in the end, she knew just how much she meant to so many of us.
