Tributes
  1. Sending my sincere condolences to Marion and family. Ray was so competitive and keen during our running days. He embraced life and studied those things that caught his interest. In his 80s running the Boxing training gym at Trafalgar. He was quick even at that age. Fond memories always. Cheers Ray.

  4. My sincere condolences to Marion and the family. Ray was a wonderful guy, and a great friend to my parents and our family. I have many great memories of times in the SEC community, of family visits, and even had the privilege of training for a while in Ray’s gym in Trafalgar (Trafalgar Boxing Club). I also wish to honour Ray and Marion for their support and love for my parents when they were both I’ll. Ray was a unique and unforgettable man and will be hugely missed by many people.

  5. I will always remember Ray’s kindness to me as a wayward teen in the early 2000s. He helped me gain confidence in myself and taught me the value of perseverance. He helped me get back on the path I wanted to be on. Without Ray in those years my life would probably look a lot different now.

It was often the highlight of my week to head into the boxing gym and let loose on the speedball or the bag for a bit. Ray let me use his gloves because he knew I couldn’t afford my own, and he always had time for a chat.

I’ll never forget his showy speedball skills, even when his wrists were starting to hurt he’d always have a go. Rest now, Ray, you earned it. ❤️ xx

  17. Deepest sympathy to Marion and family.
When I first met Ray at the Traf. boxing gym. I was amazed by the skill and knowledge displayed by this “dapper” man.
After awhile we started travelling to boxing tournaments together around Victoria and became good friends.
Ray was always neatly dressed for his coaching performances with his track pants and white skivvy. His professionalism and class always shone through.
Ray seemed to have an endless supply of jokes and his sense of humor and quick wit made him fun to be around.
Ray was a father figure to us all at the Traf. gym. and his wisdom and guidance pointed many in the right direction
Time might heal all wounds, but this is a deep one.
Farewell old mate and “keep your hands up”

Ray may have passed but the impact he made on so many people means his legacy will live on for years to come.
Ray taught self-confidence, discipline, integrity and fundamentally sound boxing technique. All qualities Ray possessed in surplus.
