Loving friend, partner and husband to Jenny for 59 years.
Wonderful father to Andy and Bec, and Jules.
Adoring and adored Grandad of Josh and Charlotte.
A wonderful, gifted teacher who made a real difference to the many students he taught in his 36 consecutive years at THS/TSC.
Enthusiastic volunteer and expert rough-cutter at Traralgon Golf Club for the last 20 years.
Loved and respected by all who knew him.
How lucky we were to have him in our lives.
Our hearts are broken.
Your guidance, smile, company, quick wit and wonderful sense of humour will be forever missed.
Funeral NoticeThe Traralgon High School was gifted to have some great teachers in the 80s when I attended there and Mr. Fleming was right up there with the best of them. Not only a great teacher but a man who took time to ask how you went in footy or cricket on the weekend. He was a man who had that gift to make you feel like you were more than just a student to him. Very sad reading of his passing so soon after Mr.Scotts passing. Love and sympathy to the Fleming family.

September 3, 2025
I never really enjoyed high school, attending each day sometimes left me counting the minutes til I could get home again but just some of the teachers made it enjoyable.
I was never very good at some types of math and when in class, Mr Fleming seemed to know I needed extra help and of course he went out of his way to help me and so many of us in the short hour he spent with us, a few times a week.
I wished I had told him, as an adult, how much I appreciated him and said thank you.
I have never forgot him, as he was one of the very good ones.
People may talk about how he was a talented footballer and cricket player, both I admire but he was foremost a wonderful human being, a husband, father ,friend and mentor. . I don’t think anyone will forget the impact he made on our lives.
To Jenny, I send my condolences, Andy, Jules and Bec, how lucky you were to have been a part of this amazing man’s life.
Thank you Mr Fleming, thank you so much for all you did, your kindness, patience and always interested in others, teaching us more than just math.
Rest easy . You are loved and will be so very missed.
Sincerely Marilyn Krueger ,
Mullaloo Perth.Trevor has fond memories of school days at Yallourn 4058 with Ian. Life growing up in Yallourn remains very clear, especially fun times with teammates, Ian & Roger Spaull during sporting days in YFC football and cricket.

September 3, 2025What a loss for our community and for your beautiful family ‘Flem’. You had such a huge influence on so many lives, not least mine, as you made darn sure every mid-year that I told you I was leaving THS to get a job, that I stayed and ultimately finished Year 12. I am forever thankful you pushed me. Rest peacefully and with grace. You have most certainly earned it.
September 3, 2025So very sad to hear of the passing of Ian,

He was a teacher while we were at the school in the seventies/ eighties , and also for our kids in the nineties.
A true gentleman who never failed to stop and chat even long after our association with the school was done. Definitely one of the good ones.

September 4, 2025Mr Fleming is a standout any time I’m asked who my favourites teachers were in high school. His humour and gentle and communication when I needed steering are still what I navigate to when I think about relationships in my own teaching. I’ve heard great and impactful stories about Flem from both colleagues and former students over time that point to a legacy extending far beyond his classroom. My sincere condolences to Mr Fleming’s loved ones.
September 5, 2025Great memories of working at TC with Ian. A nicer person you wouldn’t find. Flem always had a smile on his dial and was always up for a laugh. Condolences to Ian’s family.

September 5, 2025Our sincere condolences Jenny and family. So sorry to hear of your loss. Our thoughts are with you all at this sad time.
September 7, 2025I had the pleasure of working with Flem during my admin traineeship and the first few years of my employment at TSC. Together we battled through the evolution of VCE result submission, from floppy disks (two sizes), to usbs and finally to sending them over the internet. He taught me the importance of accuracy, patience and record keeping, tolerated my music and appreciated that I kept a healthy supply of his favourite pen in the stationery cupboard. We had secret snack stashes and at one stage the largest jar of jellybeans that I have ever seen. I will remember him as being a kind gentleman who could crack a decent joke, a sociable guy and an amazing mentor.

September 11, 2025
It has been a huge honour and privilege to have worked with him for over thirty five years.
Ian was an outstanding teacher and an amazing role model who changed the lives of a vast majority of his students. He enabled them to develop the self belief to be able to realise their potential as students and people that he consistently recognised in them.
Ian will be sadly missed but never forgotten. He also has left a legacy of quality teaching for many to follow.
Bryan and Margaret MitchellFarewell my old mate. I will forever miss your infectious smile, your generosity and the way you always conducted yourself. I still remember playing against you in a Morwell vs Yallourn junior football match way back around 1960 or so. We later caught up in the early days of surfing on Phillip Island. You would turn up in your baby Austin with a mate or two in tow and surfboards that seemed longer than the car tied to the roof rack. This was in the days of longboards, no leg ropes and no wetsuits! You used to sleep in that little Austin under a tree at the place we rented each summer. I remember many times being woken at 5.00am to see your smiling face saying: ‘It’s 6 foot and glassy out at Cat Bay!’ We have had many great times together my friend and I will miss you greatly. Patricia and I pass our sincere condolences to Jenny, Andy, Bec and Jules, and the grand children.
September 12, 2025

My heartfelt condolences to Jenny and family – thinking of you all during this difficult time.

Love and condolences to Jenny, Julie, Andy & Family,
Many fond memories from the early eighties: babysitting Andy and Julie when both Jen and Ian had local community meetings to attend; empty bottles of Taylor’s Red; ‘coup d’etat’ committee meetings at ‘The Flemings’ and ‘The Droughts’’; landscaping erections outside the high school library; fluffy ducks; ‘professional development’ at Camp Welcola; Friday Happy Hours; being welcomed into your family holiday at Bushy Park, ….
Always loved and missed,
Andrea McColl, Debbie Lewis and Jill Wardle (The Patrol)Dear Jenny, Andrew and Julie.. I shall remember all the happy times we shared with you all at Sara Court Kindergarten many years ago. Jenny, along with your wonderful Ian, provided so much support and kindness to myself, as well as interest and support to our family, of Aaron, Michael and Rachel when they attended THS.
