  8. Although I haven’t spoken to Greg in years, there is not much of my childhood that didn’t involve Friday night dinners at the thorpdale pub followed by sleep overs with Brooke at Greg’s house or hanging out at the fire station with him and brooke in juniors on a Sunday.

He was like a 2nd dad to me, happy, caring with a heart of gold. Everyone is better for having known him, he sure has left his mark and I will never forget him. My thoughts are with Brooke and family xxxxx

  18. Greg Bantock – Regimental, we could all set our clock to your daily routine, extremely neat, a spreadsheet and list for everything. Exquisite hand writing, very knowledgeable and a “quiz master” when it came to all conflict throughout the World since the “big bang” were just some of the small things that I admired about you Greg.

However, that gruff exterior was just simply a camouflage, as behind your façade you were a genuinely warm hearted and very kind man!

Greg, you mastered many tasks throughout your working life, but I think your roles in operational training and logistics management is where you truly left your mark. Although you coordinated training over many years, Greg you were much happier in the logistics role, where you excelled by developing systems and processes to assist day to day activities and when required during complex operational activities over many, many years. Greg you just made things happen without any fanfare or fuss. The normal Bantock approach!

I’ll fondly remember your wicked sense of humour that sometimes led to the occasional snicker of laugher. Personally, I’ve certainly missed your tearoom life stories of family, work, firewood collection, highlighting each of the team’s inadequacies and of course your hilarious parachuting endeavours, particularly the one where something went wrong! In “the cone of silence” that was our tearoom at the time, we all knew that behind all your bravado and directness, you were a very loyal and kind friend who we loved very much.

But I suppose the things I most admire about you Greg was that you committed every day of your life to serve and help others. You always showed your great love for family and those who were your friends. I also admired the way you met your health challenges head on and when asked over the years “how are you going”, the answer was always a definite “I’m good”. Finally, your life’s work has definitely made a difference to family, friendships and to your beloved community through your CFA service.

Unfortunately, COVID restrictions won’t allow us all to come together to mourn and celebrate your life and most importantly to show our love and support your family. But Greg hopefully this can happen into the future.

So, with that said, Sue and I wish to extend our heartfelt condolences to both Pauline and Brooke and to their extended family members. We’re also thinking of all our friends (both volunteer and staff) located within CFA District 9 on the loss of a great colleague and friend who should never be forgotten.

Greg, Rest in Peace my friend!

  19. The members of the Warragul Fire Brigade would like to extend our condolences to Greg’s family and friends during this difficult time.

Greg “Bangers” was an esteemed member and firefighter with the brigade for over 20 years, assisting with the development and training of many volunteer firefighters during this time through his involvement with training / PAD instructor roles.

More importantly Greg was responsible for the success of the wider District 9 community through his logistics / district support officer role, which he performed meticulously with great pride.

Your friendship and knowledge will be greatly missed “Bangers”

  24. Greg, Bangers, you have left us grieving for a time but we can only keep lighting up a smile remembering you.
As work colleague, friend to many, you did your family and fire service proud.
Thanks for showing us how to get through – from your last two years; but also being wise in life.
Be at rest, peace, and enjoying the good things of what’s next – I know you expected there to be better days ahead in another place.

Famous Greg quote, at morning tea time: “we fought for these conditions.”

Thoughts very much with: the family and all fire service colleagues, particularly those close knock-about mates of yours.
