SMITH, Margaret Jessie (née Longbottom)

18/1/1927 – 7/9/2025

Dearly loved and treasured wife of Kelvin (dec)

Mother of Lorraine Stratford, Wendy Marshall, David Smith and Leslie Smith.

Grandmother of 11 and Great Grandmother of 17.

With tears we watched you suffer,

and watched you fade away,

with courage and concern for others,

you fought so hard to stay,

But God saw that you were weary,

and did what He thought best,

He gently took you in His arms,

and whispered come and rest,

we all love you Mother.

  3. I say here today not just as a friend of the family, but as someone who was blessed to be loved by Margaret as if Wendy and I was one of her own.

To us, she wasn’t only Wendy, Lorraine, David, and Bluey’s mum — she was like a mother to us too. She welcomed Wendy and I with open arms, never once treating us as outsiders, but as family. That was Margaret’s gift: she had a way of expanding her circle of love until everyone she cared about fit inside it.

She lived 98 years with grace, humour, and strength. She taught us about kindness, about resilience, and about the importance of family — not just the one you’re born into, but the one you gather along the way.

What I’ll remember most is her warmth, her wisdom, and the way she could make you feel at home simply by being herself. Her love will continue in all of us who had the privilege of knowing her.

Margaret, you were a mother to many, a friend to all, and your presence will be missed more than words can say. Thank you for making us part of your family. We will carry your spirit in my heart always.”

  7. Aunty Margaret has always been a favourite of mine. She was always smiling and kind to me, and liked to make me giggle and laugh as a kid with her funny little stories. We spent many lovely moments together. Such a beautiful and resilient lady, who was a wonderful friend and support to our beautiful Mum Jeanette. Right up until the last time we saw each other, she continued to amaze me with her strength, resilience and bubbly nature. Someone to look up too. You will definitely be missed, but not in our conversations. Have a nice cuppa with Jeanette (mum) when you see her. She’ll love a good chat and laugh with you!! Much love – Cathrine, Greg, Matthew and Ethan. Xxxx
